According to foreign media, Samsung Display (Samsung Display) and LG Display (LG Display) are developing silicon OLED (OLEDoS) and silicon LED (LEDoS) technology, these micro-display technology is designed to be applied to virtual and augmented reality devices.

Similar to such technologies is liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS), a technology that can be manufactured with a silicon substrate of about 1 inch in size, unlike traditional displays that use glass substrates. And the use of silicon substrates to create displays, even if the size is small, can also achieve ultra-high resolution.

Currently, Japan's Sony is still the leader in the field of OLEDoS technology, which uses white OLED and red, green and blue filters. Samsung Display, on the other hand, plans to provide OLEDoS with a resolution of 3,000 pixels per inch (PPI) and a brightness of 10,000 nits to its parent company, Samsung, in 2024.

For this piece of LEDoS technology, Samsung Electronics aims to achieve a resolution of 6,000-7,000 per inch. in comparison, OLEDoS is aimed at virtual reality devices, while LEDoS is aimed at augmented reality devices.

LG Display had earlier developed LEDoS for Apple, but has recently started to develop LEDoS technology. The company's OLEDoS is expected to be used in Apple's first mixed reality device to be launched next year. Currently, the device's internal OLEDoS is provided by Sony, and the external screen is provided by LG Display.
